EARNING WHILE STUDYING IN SINGAPORE
In general, Full time graduate students are allowed to work part-time of up to a maximum of 16 hours per week. However, students need to obtain permission from the (International Student Center) ISC. During vacation, students are allowed to work full time as the Ministry of Manpower has exempted them from applying for work permits.

Undergraduate Studies
The most of the universities/colleges recruits international undergraduates from countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Nepal, Hong Kong, China and Mauritius.
International students interested in pursuing undergraduate studies in the universities/colleges must have completed at least 12 years of general education in order to be considered for admission. Application for admission opens from October to March.
Post Graduate Studies
Universities/colleges of Singapore offers graduate programs leading to the award of the degrees of Master and Doctor of Philosophy as well as postgraduate diplomas. There are two types of graduate degree programs - by research and by coursework and dissertation.
STUDENT VISA PROCESS
Process to obtain Singaporean Student Visa for international students
To acquire an extension, the immigration authorities in Singapore should be contacted. The price of the extension is subject to the immigration officer's discretion.
Documents Required
Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond date of departure required by all.
Application to: Consulate (or Consular section at High Commission or Embassy).
Application requirements:
- Valid passport.
- Valid travel documents including an onward or return ticket.
- Sufficient funds.
- Two passport-size photos.
- Form or letter from college/university in Singapore.
- Three completed application forms.
- Yellow fever vaccination certificate if passing through or coming from an endemic zone within 6 days of arriving in Singapore.
- Local sponsor's ID card, with photocopy, except for those in Institutes of Higher Learning.
- Birth certificate.
- Certified copies of highest educational certificates and results.
Cost of a visa
Visa, Social Visit Pass (short-or long-term; S$20), Professional Visit Pass, Student Pass and Transit. Application packs with instructions and prevailing visa costs at the time of application are obtainable from the High Commission.
LIVING COST IN SINGAPORE
Living Cost for International Students in Singapore In Singapore, monthly expenses for international student is estimated to be around Singaporean Dollar S$875-S$1450 excluding universities or colleges charges.
In a month students will need around S$225-S$400 for their meals which will be available in the university canteen and food centers. For accommodation, students will have to spend around S$ 225-S$400.
For traveling from one place to another in vehicle, it will cost around S$100-S$150 (it is for a locally used transportation services only).
The optional expenses for stationery, toiletries, laundry, recreation, etc will be S$300-S$500
Applying for a Singaporean student visa
Fluency in English is required to apply for a student visa to Singapore. The following certificates of English competency are accepted:
- GCSE - General Certificate of Secondary Education
- TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
- IELTS - International English Language Testing System
Apart from the English test, the students must have also received their letter of acceptance from the university where they wish to pursue their course of study. The international and overseas students should ensure that their visa application reaches the ICA at least 2 months before the date of commencement of the course. Except for applications to certain local polytechnics and to the universities, an overseas student needs a local sponsor who is a citizen of Singapore or a Singapore PR above the age of 21 so that he can apply for a student pass.
Normally, it takes four weeks or more to complete the visa processing stage. All applications must be submitted online through SOLAR at least a month before the intended start day but not more than two months before.
